Pickering Interfaces and REACH
REACH is a new European Union regulation concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals.
Aims
The main aims of REACH:
> To provide a high level of protection of human health and the environment from the use of chemicals.
> To make manufacturers and importers who place chemicals on the market responsible for understanding and managing the risks associated with their use.
> To help the Chemical Industry and those that use chemicals within the EU market, including the assessment of Chemical hazards.
Scope and Registration
REACH applies to substances manufactured or imported into the EU in quantities of 1 tonne per year or more. Generally, it applies to all individual chemical substances on their own, in preparations or in articles where the substance is deliberately released from an object during use. Details can be found on European Chemical Agency website: http://guidance.echa.europa.eu/index_en.htm and in the UK on the HSE website: http://www.hse.gov.uk/reach/about.htm.
As Pickering Interfaces do not manufacture or import chemical substances as above registration and a serious analysis of preparations or other materials is not necessary under the REACH legislation.
