RS232 Control of LXI Devices

Pickering LXI devices with an RS-232 serial port can be configured to allow login and control of switching and simulation functions using text-based commands.

Enabling Login Via RS-232

LXI devices are not configured to allow console login by default. To change this, first navigate to the homepage of the web interface on your LXI device:

LXI Device Instrument Control Page

Select the “Security” page and set a password on the device in order to enable remote/serial login:

Accessing the LXI Device Via RS-232 From a PC

If you are using a USB to serial adapter to communicate with the device, you can use Device Manager in Windows to locate the appropriate COM port to use:

PC Device Manager Communication Port List

In this case, the serial adapter is identified at COM3. In this example we will use PuTTY to connect to the device at COM3:

PuTTY Configuration Screen

The settings for the LXI device’s RS-232 port are 115200 baud rate, 8 data bits, 1 stop bits, no parity. Log in with the username “admin” and the password you set via the web interface. You will be presented with a PILMon command interpreter which can be used to control switching and other functions on any available Pickering cards.

Help on PILMon commands can be obtained by typing the ‘HE’ command or by visiting the Pickering Knowledgebase page on the PILMon command set at: https://www.pickeringtest.com/kb/software-topics/other-software-pages/new-pilmon-command-set
