“High voltage” is a relative term when applied to switching. Many of our reed relay modules can switch up to 200 VDC, while some of our high-power electromechanical relay and solid-state switch modules can handle up to 400V DC. But here, we use the term “high voltage” for switch modules capable of handling 1 kV and higher. These are typically used in a variety of electronic test, measurement, and verification applications, including circuit board isolation tests, component test, semiconductor breakdown monitoring, cable harness insulation test, medical electronics, electric vehicles, and energy and physics research.
We offer a range of modular PXI, PXIe, and LXI high-voltage switching solutions up to 9 kV. These solutions incorporate premium reed relays manufactured by our relay division, Pickering Electronics, or electromechanical relays specifically designed for very high-voltage switching. Below are examples of 9 kV switches with high-voltage reed relays in both PXI and our scalable LXI switching platform.
All our high-voltage switch solutions include RFI suppression circuits that extend relay contact life in hot switching applications and control surges caused by high-voltage transients in cold switching applications. We always recommend cold switching wherever possible for maximum relay life. A Hardware Interlock is also provided on the front panel connectors of our 9 kV switches - this can be used to disable relay operation for operator safety if, for example, a test system cabinet door is opened.
